Do you have questions about hiring a composer or have never worked with one before? You want the music for your project to be perfect! So do I! Here are some of the most common questions to help break the ice and get the ball rolling.

How long does it take to compose a piece of music?

Every project is different. Music composition and production is a process in which the genre really matters. For example, a full epic orchestral score with a choir would take about 3-5 days, whereas an electronic soundtrack would generally take about 1-3 days. However, if your needs required a rushed delivery for the music, that can also be arranged.

What is your price to compose a piece of music?

The pricing for a piece of music will vary depending on its genre, length, and how complex the piece will be. For a precise quote, please send me an email with a detailed description of your project.

How long have you been composing music?

I have been playing the piano since I was 3 years old. My fascination and love of music motivated me to learn a variety of other instruments including cello, bass, voice, guitar, drums and violin. I started writing music for rock bands when I was in 14. Over the years, that process led to a desire to create more complex music.

Where do you get inspiration from?

I am inspired by many people and many composers. My greatest source of inspiration comes from Leonardo Da Vinci. He looked at the world with the innocence of a child and the mind of a master. As for composers, some of my favorites are Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig Von Beethoven, Dvořák, and George Winston.

Will I have to know a lot of musical terms?

Music, at it’s core, is about emotion. A good composer translates that emotion into music. If you know the tone or the emotion that you want your audience to feel, then you’re mostly there. Even if you’re familiar with musical terms and theory, It’s still sometimes easier to convey what you want by simply speaking about the emotion.

What formats do you deliver your music in?

Music and sound files will be delivered as an interleaved stereo .AIFF or .WAV file with any sample and bit rate you need. My standard is 48Khz, 24 bit. I can deliver your project either online via Box, Soundcloud or FTP (yours or ours) or on a data or audio CD. I can also deliver preliminary or intermediate mixes to your picture as compressed Quicktime movies, so that you can watch them right away without waiting for your editor to import them.

What if I don’t like the music you write?

No problem! If I write something that is not to your liking, let me know. The process of commissioning music is a dialogue and there are usually revisions when working with a composer for the first time. I take constructive criticism in an objective way. Getting the music right is the most important thing, and I want you to be happy with it. Depending on the size of the project, one or two revisions to some cues is normal. Also, I always factor in redrafting so we’ll still be on schedule.
